Saul Goodman — the detective
NYPD inspector who reads the memos with Barney in the rubble; kidnapped and drugged in Book Two.
What the novel gives (full-trilogy search): gray hair, takes his hat off and runs a hand through it, reading glasses he polishes with a handkerchief, a pipe, old wrinkled hands, "conscious of his age", an "inscrutable Talmudic countenance" no poker player can read, a "kindly-family-doctor persona". No eye colour, no build.

The bedside manner side of him. Reads softer than a man who sent seventeen men to the chair.

Strong, but leans toward the TV cop the bible forbids.

Mavis / Stella Maris — one actress for both
Pulls George out of Mad Dog; initiates him; sits with Saul when he comes back.
What the novel gives (full-trilogy search): Mavis: "large bright eyes", a "triangular red" Masonic tattoo between her breasts, a white doctor's smock in the interrogation, otherwise sweater and slacks. Stella: a Black woman, "the rich browns and blacks of her body", gold bracelets on her wrists. The book blurs the two. Mavis's race is never stated, so one Black actress carries both. Tattoo and bracelets come at the outfit stage.

Robert Putney Drake — the villain
Beacon Hill money that bought the Syndicate; last man alive in his platoon at Chateau Thierry, 1918; seventies in 1975.
What the novel gives (full-trilogy search): "blue eyes" (twice), "Old Drake", born in one of the finest old homes on Beacon Hill, a Justice Department man for a Grand Master, smiles at his own family portrait, "tight lips". No hair or build given.

Solid but generic; reads like any retired officer.
Simon Moon — the recruiter
Recruits Malik in Chicago 1968; draws pyramids on bar tables; "it's an energy transformation."
What the novel gives (full-trilogy search): "bearded young white cat", "a man around thirty", always with a Black woman on his arm, adviser on Illuminati affairs, argues anarchism against Maoists. Nothing else.
